Morton West '16 alumnus Branson Rideaux Commits to Yale University

Morton West Senior Branson Rideaux Commits to Yale University

Halfway through Branson Rideaux's freshman year, he realized Morton West was his home and "wouldn't trade it for any other school in the country." Now, the senior is proud to call Yale University his home for the next four years. The President of the school's student leadership team S.A.A.L.T will study chemical engineering (and possibly pre-law or political science) in the same classrooms where several American Presidents and other notable alumni began their journey.

"I'd like to make an impact on the world through my love of science," Branson said. He also loves to play music with his band and enjoys long cast dinners with his theatre family. "I've made many connections with the unique family that is Morton."

The talented performer added that as a child, building his self-esteem was one of his goals.

"I began to focus on improving myself. I know that I can't ever be perfect, but would like to consider myself a constant work in progress and do my best to love who I am every step of the way."

He tells others, "Don't be afraid to be great. Morton students have fantastic potential and a unique determination to defy the odds." Besides saving the planet, Branson aims to take care of his family one day, just as his role model did.

"After serving in WWII, my grandfather came home with only a high school diploma and was able to create a stable home on the west side of Chicago. He worked hard to make sure that they were taken care of even after his death."

Branson Rideaux is the President of S.A.A.L.T. Vice President of Morton Thespians, NHS, and Improv club and a member of JSA, Snowball, Student Council, Swim Team and the Water Polo Team.
